Advance Directive

Also known as a “living will,” this document is necessary when a person does not wish to be placed on life-sustaining treatment when it will only prolong the dying process or maintain the patient in a condition of persistent unconsciousness. The term “life-sustaining treatment” does not include the normal consumption of food and water or administering medication or any medical treatment deemed necessary to alleviate pain.
